AI-Native NOW: Journey to the Self‑Driving Network

Join us to learn about the five stages on a journey to the Self-Driving Network™ and how each stage is fundamental for building organizational trust in AI.

Building confidence in AI

A journey to the Self-Driving Network in many ways resembles the evolution of self-driving cars—what once seemed like science fiction is now becoming attainable through relentless innovation and by iteratively gaining the trust of operators and users across five distinct stages. The ultimate destination is a fully autonomous network that optimizes performance, security, and reliability while empowering IT teams to drive innovation, scale seamlessly, and deliver exceptional user experiences.

Stage 1: Data

Collecting rich, relevant data is critical to enabling the Self-Driving Network. Juniper has been collecting the right data from access points, routers, switches, and firewalls for over a decade. For example, we measure over 150 real-time wireless user states through streaming telemetry from access points. This data, centralized in the cloud, is the foundation for developing advanced AI algorithms that deliver insights, recommendations, and self-healing capabilities.

Stage 2: Insights

When relevant data is translated into useful insights, IT teams gain visibility and context into network performance. For example, Juniper Mist AI provides insights into user experiences and identifies the root cause when performance degrades. This helps IT teams proactively find and resolve issues, drastically reducing troubleshooting time and fixing problems before they impact end user experiences.

Stage 3: Recommendations

Recommendations take those data-driven insights to the next level by offering actionable suggestions to improve network performance. Marvis Virtual Network Assistant, powered by Mist AI, is unparalleled in its ability to provide root cause analysis and recommend rapid resolutions. Marvis Actions flags the most critical performance issues across the network, helping IT teams accurately and intuitively prioritize where they should focus their attention.

Stage 4: Assisted

Here, the network begins to autonomously resolve issues when given permission by the user and with their oversight. This is happening with Juniper’s AI-Native network today. For example, Mist AI can initiate a port reset if it detects a port flap or initiate an RMA for an access point it has deemed defective. These self-healing capabilities strengthen your network while further mitigating downtime and minimizing the burden on your limited IT resources.

Stage 5: Self-driving

The final stage is a fully autonomous, self-driving network that runs itself without human intervention. From autonomously adjusting network configurations to optimizing bandwidth based on external, real-time inputs, the network now takes on most operational tasks. This frees your IT team to focus on more strategic initiatives and independently optimizes network performance and reliability.
